First Day Back...

It was my first day back today, to school I mean. I didn't miss it, but look forward to a new set of students. I'm panicking about a custom order I've done, I got an email that the person was looking forward to 'posing' them, I hope they just mean setting them up, because my sculptures aren't flexible......

yeah, that's got to be it, yeah....

One more day of planning then we hit the school year running. I hope I have trouble keeping up with orders and school. You read me right, I hope that I have lots of orders from Etsy to make me panic about getting my school work done. ;)

Favorite Finish: Tortie

It seems that buyers on Etsy really like 'near-to-life' coloring on their sculptures. Maybe I'll start doing a little less neon and more Calico....actually, I have a calico catnap cooling off currently (like my alliteration?)

Baked Beans

Yummy yummy. I made some baked beans I saw on Paula Dean today and boy they were DELICIOUS! Didn't have to cook anything, just throw it together and bake.

Stoli's doing MUCH better with people; tonight he actually let my father in law pet him for about 30 seconds. There's hope!

Aren't Cat's Just Adorable?

I was getting ready for bed last night and was noticing Stoli and Luxor winding in and around my feet. They are really works of art. Living, breathing; they have personality, soul, likes, dislikes, attitudes. You have to wonder what they think of you sometimes.

Noises Off!

This movie lightened my day. I used to watch it all the time in high school and I got it on DVD today. It's a really great movie. It has a lot of great actors/actresses that went on to do many more things. It's a movie about a play about a play....get it? I swear that as the movie goes on, the actors HAD to have ad libbed.....and if they did, MAN they are GOOD. If they didn't....MAN, the writers are good. If you haven't seen it, it's worth a rental...but you have to pay attention - the lines are too good to miss.

Screen Printing Beware!

For those of you who purchase your screen printed items from a certain store (*cough* Custom Ink *cough*), beware.

I purchased 10 shirts with just text on them. We had them rush ordered to the tune of over $200. The company had great customer service and the articles were extremely well done. But for the price you would think that they would hold up for more than one wash.

Negative, Houston.

None, I repeat, none of the 10 shirts survived one wash. Some followed the washing directions, others did not. It didn't matter. Those shirts were only good for one wearing.

One or more letters displayed cracking and peeling on each shirt.

Now, I'm a novice screen printer myself. Granted I do it with glue, curtain material and an embroidery hoop - but all the shirts I've made for myself have lasted through multiple washings.

I sent them this email: to no reply.....

Hello Ashley,

I've received your letters; one for submitting photos and the most recent about ideas for additional orders. Since it seems that your company really values your customers' opinions, I felt the need to let you know that none of the 10 shirts we ordered held up in the wash (one cycle). Everyone's "M" has cracked as well as other letters at random. Not everyone probably followed the washing instructions, but for this to happen to all 10 shirts.....it's disappointing. I know that I followed the directions and my lettering is cracking and peeling.

Your company was great at contacting me with questions about my order, it arrived quickly (we rushed it) and the product looked amazing. Everyone enjoyed the shirts for the wedding rehearsal dinner. But now every time I look at my shirt, I don't first think of the wonderful event - but the fact that I purchased 10 of these shirts and not one held up to one washing without showing any wear/tear.

As a novice screen printer myself, I know that great care is taken when printing on fabric. Granted, I don't have all the fancy equipment that companies do (I just use curtain material, mod podge and an embroidery hoop), my own personal t-shirts have held up to more washings than the 'Marro' t-shirt. I'd be glad to take a picture for you, if you'd like to see exactly what I'm talking about. I don't want this to happen to any of your other customers, and I hope this was an isolated occurrence.

It's unfortunate that my email has to be anything other than compliments, but I spent over $200 on these t-shirts that were given to the wedding party for my brother-in-law's wedding. We gave these t-shirts instead of a wedding gift.

Thanks,

Finished Custom Order for Etsy

Here is the finished custom order for an Etsy buyer. I had a lot of fun thinking about how I would put this together. The dark grey was a mixture of silver Premo clay and black. And in the blog post before this I explained the tortie cat.

Tres Chic!

I made my signature cat sculpture today. But I'm at a loss for a name....any ideas?
